Netley Common is managed by the Hampshire Countryside Service. Every second Wednesday our task is lead by Carly Fretwell who is a Countryside Ranger working on this site.
It represents one of the last remaining pieces of heath land in the Southampton area. At present the site is suffering from an excess of silver birch, gorse and bramble. But it is hoped to bring cattle onto the Common in early 2014 to graze the area. To this end a number of tasks in 2013 involve construction of new stock fencing enclosing a large fraction of the site and removal of old fencing in the interior.
